CRNC Co-Chairman Resigns

From CRNation.com:

CRNC Co-Chair Nick Miccarelli has resigned. From a press release forwarded to CR Nation:
As he pursues his campaign for State Representative from Pennsylvania’s 162nd district National Co-Chairman Nick Miccarelli is formally resigning his post within the College Republican National Committee. He had the following statement regarding his departure:

“It is with mixed emotions today that I announce my resignation as Co-Chairman of the College Republican National Committee. I have declared my candidacy for state representative in Pennsylvania’s 162nd district and I am resigning my position so that I may devote myself fully to my campaign and so that the CRNC can find a Co-Chairman that will be fully involved with the organization’s efforts in 2008. This was a very difficult decision to make but it would prove impossible for me to balance both of these tasks.

It was my privilege to be elected to this position and my honor to serve alongside Charlie Smith and a team of talented, dedicated young leaders. Under our administration so far, fundraising has been rebuilt on the face of a fresh new image and outreach to donors has never in the history of the CRNC been met with more success. STORM is primed to be the most successful program ever launched by the CRNC and if College Republicans around the country utilize it to its maximum capacity it will tip the scales in our favor in races all over the country. Finally, perhaps we can be most proud of the reforms which have made our organization more transparent and ethical. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to what the future holds for our organization.

After countless doors knocked on, dollars raised, and friendships built, I bid you all a fond farewell. I hope you will join me in continuing to support Charlie and the CRNC team as they build up this great organization.

Finally, I would like every single person in our organization to know that I consider you all friends. If there is anything I can ever do to help any of you, I’m only a phone call away. Thank you all so much for the support you have shown me as I make this exciting transition.”

Following Nick’s resignation Chairman Smith offered the following, “Nick has been an integral part of our team and of the movement to make College Republicans successful. He is a dear friend, and while his help will be missed at the CRNC, we wish him all the best in his efforts for the Pennsylvania House and in all his future endeavors.”

In line with the governing articles of the CRNC constitution the Executive Board will elect a temporary Co-Chairman to fill the vacancy until a vote by the National Board can be taken at the next scheduled Board Meeting.

Miccarelli was elected unanimously last July. CR Nation wishes him all the best in his campaign for state representative, and thanks him for his service to the College Republicans and, more importantly, to our country in the United States Army.

BREAKING: Castro resigns as President of Cuba

The Associated Press is now reporting (along with CNN and Fox News) that communist Cuban leader Fidel Castro has announced that he is resigning as leader and commander of Cuba.

From CNN.com
(CNN) -- Fidel Castro announced his resignation as president of Cuba and commander-in-chief of Cuba's military on Tuesday, according to a letter published in the state-run newspaper, Granma.
Castro, 81, temporarily handed power to his younger brother Raul Castro in July 2006 after undergoing intestinal surgery. He hasn't been seen in public since his surgery, but he has appeared in numerous videos and photos in state media.
In December 2007, a Cuban television news anchor read a letter reportedly written by Fidel Castro promising he would not "cling to office" or be an impediment to rising young leaders. Castro rose to power in 1959.

There will likely be a large celebration across Cuba and in Miami especially ... but they have been preping for this for a long time.

Again, Fidel Castro resigning as President of Cuba.

As the news continues to come in about this horrific situation at Northern Illinois University, I want to extend prayers and thoughts to students, faculty, staff, and parents of NIU on the behalf of the College Republicans at UTSA.

If our fellow College Republicans there need anything they should not hesitate to ask. If we can help we will.

God Bless NIU.
